Come and enjoy a trip to jolly old England. For your listening pleasure, we have prepared delightful arrangements of Britian's finest music including everything from the Beatles to Ballads. And, YES, we are playing some of those wonderful marches that even the Queen herself loves. Bring your friends and neighbors down to experience a trip across the Atlantic without leaving Montrose.
This year's spring concert will feature Holly Ray on the clarinet performing Percy Aldridge Grainger's Molly on the Shore, an Irish Reel set for Military Band, written by an Australian.
John House will be featured on trombone as he performs Morceau Symphonique by Alexandre Guilmant, a moving piece played with emotion and fire. Morceau Symphonique is a solo from the late French romantic period (it was written in 1902). Guilmant was a contemporary of Maurice Ravel and Claude Debussy.
Also, from the British Isles we'll perform Sea Songs by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Overture for Winds by Charles Carter, Yorkshire Ballad by James Barnes, and Colonial Bogey by Keith J. Alford. You will also enjoy three rousing pieces: The Hounds of Spring by Alfred Reed, Crown Imperial by William Walton and Music of the Beatles arranged by Michael Sweeney.
(Note: No formal attire is needed when listening to old British music, and we will NOT be breaking for afternoon tea.)
