For Music

For Fun

For the Community

Montrose has a rich history of municipal bands, dating back nearly 100 years. The Montrose Community Band was organized in 2002. From the initial group of about 12, the band has grown to over 30 members as more and more musicians bring forth their melodies in the valleys and hills.

The Montrose Community Band features a wide range of musicians from High School students to accomplished artists. They work hard, have fun and love to play.

The Montrose Community Band is under the enthusiastic direction of  Mr. Toby King.

In Memory of Herb Probasco

In the fall of 2002 Herb Probasco put an ad in the Daily Press calling for musicians. Montrose used to have a community band but they no longer did and Herb wanted to play. Twelve people showed up and in the last nine years over sixty musicians have performed with the Montrose Community Band.

On October 16, 2011 Herb Probasco passed away. Prior to his passing we were selecting music for the 2011 Christmas concert and Herb wanted to play the Elegy For the U.S.S. Arizona in honor of the heroes of Pearl Harbor. He always kept us informed of pieces appropriate for historical events. We are performing his selection this Christmas and we dedicate the song to Herb.

He will be greatly missed by all of us.

Current Musician of the Quarter:

George Van Allen. George has been a long-time member of the band. Even though he has had to travel from Grand Junction at times he keeps showing up. We appreciate his contribution to the clarinect section and faithfulness to the band.
