Committee Reports
Fundraising
Herb Probasco
- The Finance Committee hasn't met.
- Andy King asked if the DMEA grant would go to music this time. Dennis asked if there was any accounting back to the donor regarding the use of the funds, Lyle said no. DMEA gave the band $300 last year for the music library.
Membership
Donald Ludlow
- Donald gave a new membership folder to Wes Sansom, the new clarinetist
- Lyle asked Herb if he contacted the lady with the Montrose New Comers yet, he had not.
Publicity
Herb Probasco
- No extra advertising has been done for the Main in Motion since it is already advertised but will send an e-mail to Steve Woody to remind him.
- No publicity is done for Deltarado either, there is usually a lot in attendance.
- Lyle asked if the banner was going to be taken down, Herb replied that it is and is already back in his garage.
- There were $80 spent on two ads in the paper for musicians with no response yet. Joe commented that it could ultimately payoff, people become aware and then decide later to join. The band he was with in California advertised every week.
- Jim said that the Village Shopper may run the ad for free, Herb has contacted them but needs to check back.
Uniforms
Yvonne McChesney
- Inventory has been taken and we have 18 reversible vests in stock, 13 blazers, 13 paisley vests and 15 gray pants. Three reversible vests were delivered, one for Andy King and two men's mediums for stock. Dawn Weber, the seamstress, reports that we have enough fabric for 3 more vests.
- Uniform for Main in Motion and Deltarado will be flag print out and blue pants.
Website
Yvonne McChesney
- Minutes of the May meeting were posted.
- The picture on the front was changed to the 2005 Summer Concert with the flag in the background.
- The Member calendar was updated and a recap of the summer concert was put on the home page as well as the Main in Motion and Deltarado dates.
- Statistics, daily average visitors range from 28-31, and monthly averages range from 891-962, June being the lower numbers. Visitors came from Google, MSN, Montrose Visitors and Convention Bureau and Yahoo and rockmusik.com a French website ?!? The search strings that people used were 28 searches for Puritan Pants, 11 for Montrose Band/ Montrose Community Band, 1 for Bob Eisenman, 1 for bowtie patriotic, 1 for Montrose Colorado 4 th of July, and Herb Probasco and Lyle Miller also made it into the search statistics, congratulations.
Librarian
Joe Reitz
- It was a good idea to collect the music after the concert, Joe was able to return more HS music.
- The library is going to run out of space with the new music and Caucasian sketches is too big for the current folders. Joe is still authorized to find a new filing cabinet, he would get one with a working lock. Andy suggested a Winger cabinet made especially for music, but they are expensive, Joe said a regular one would be fine.
- Joe wants to collect all of the summer and fall music after the fall concert.
- Dennis needs a first part folder so that first trumpet is always covered even if the person that is playing first is not there.
- Yvonne mentioned that Andy Burke said it would be ok to put the band music back in the High School, Joe would need a HS key though. Yvonne will request one.
Old Business
- Lyle enrolled us in the Association of Community Bands.
- Lyle asked Herb about the band director in New Orleans that we had pledged the money to, they were able to rescue their music and equipment but he will ask neighboring bands if they need help.
- Musician of the quarter was reviewed and approved, see Musician of the Quarter Qualifications for the qualifications. Lyle will announce it on Monday night.
- It was mentioned that a retreat would be good to have again this fall to plan out the direction of the band next year and ascertain what people are willing to commit to.
- Herb asked about performing for the Elks Club and that Lyle said that it is not going to come together, not enough notice.
- For Main in Motion we need to be playing at 6 pm so be at Demoret Park at 5:30 pm, load from the High School at 5 pm..
New Business
- Dave Loncar is unable to play the Main in Motion dates when they are on the third Thursday of the Month, it would be best on the second or first, he always teaches the CPR class on the third Thursday.
- Andy King thinks that the stipend to him for directing the band it too much. Options were discussed, he can donate it back to the band, he can be reimbursed for gas mileage, $100 would be good.
- Andy King brought up the idea of performing with the Delta Wind Ensemble for our fall concert, maybe do another concert at the Delta Middle School Auditorium. We would play four of our challenging pieces and they would play and then we would have piece that we would play together. Joe mentioned that we could pick up more players out of Delta.
- Jim Gibson relayed a comments that Claire received, two people told her that all of the songs should be upbeat and patriotic, no ballads.
- Jim has received a letter from Lee VanWinkle of the Mail room, he is interested in being a Co-Sponsor for the fall concert.
- Jim has received a bill from the Pavilion regarding the June 20 concert, he was surprised, he didn't think we had to paid for it if we didn't perform inside. He looked but couldn't find a record of payment last year or before. Herb said that the first outdoor concert we did there was a donation on their part. It was brought up that the sponsor could have paid directly. Jim hasn't received the concert sponsorship money from Dr. Krebs yet. He probably needs to be formally asked.
- Yvonne has a friend in Denver that is the president of a community band and they were brainstorming about performing somewhere in between Denver and Montrose, possibly Glenwood Springs. Creed also has a Mining Days celebration that is quite popular and might be a venue, even though it is not in the middle. It was recommended that this subject be brought up next week.
Meeting Adjourned. At 8:50 pm.
