Old Business
- Music Director - Joe recommended that we advertise. Jim and Herb discussed talking to Carl Bivins to see what he is doing. John House said Andy King is interested in being the Music Director, he should have more time since he isn't directing the chorus next year. Herb suggested that a job description be drawn up for the position. John House suggested that someone could be the assistant, that would help. Herb said someone could help John write the Music Directors job description.
- Jim Gibson said we need to have the music for the June 30 concert selected already. Andy has talked to Joe, they have picked 9 pieces in addition to what we are already playing.. John said the program should run about 70 minutes. Jim Gibson wanted to know who will do the writing for the Master of Ceremonies. Herb said Carl usually did. Dennis commented that Larry Sims writes programs but Herb said Larry is not interested in doing more for the band.
- John House recommended that Andy King do a concert and then ask the band if they would like him to continue past the fall concert. That is usually how bands select their directors. We need member feedback. We will make a formal offer after the fall concert.
- John can also call other High School, and College directors to see if they are interested.
New Business
- A stipend is recommended for Andy King since he drives 50 miles a trip. Jim recommended $300 to cover the 12 rehearsals and concert date. Joe remarked that HS marching band directors get $1,000 for the season. Herb recommended we could give him extra for extra concerts, $50 each addition performance. A motion was made, to award the $300 stipend and $50 per extra performance. Jim Gibson seconded it and it was approved.
- Dennis and John House will do the job description for the Music Director. They must know the music budget.
- John House recommended that 2 - 3 minutes should be spent on announcements prior to rehearsals to keep people informed.
- Joe Reitz requested a 2-drawer filing cabinet to house the rest of the music. Yvonne made a motion for the band to buy a filing cabinet for the librarian. Jim seconded it and it was approved.
